Fur is green

At the moment we are at a time where everybody is trying their best to be conscious of how our choices and lifestyles affect nature. It seems, that there are different ways of being sustainable fashion. Some say that they are sustainable because they recreate clothes from reused plastic and textiles. In our point of view, sustainable fashion is clothes that can biodegrade itself. In this case fur is an excellent product to use and promote. Unfortunately, narrowminded animal rights campaigns have created misleading statements and confusion about the true sustainable role of the fur industry. This makes it even more important for us to emphasize, that fur is a natural material and a true gift of nature. Fur can degrade itself in nature and nothing is wasted in the process. This makes it a sustainable material, that should not be wasted because of misleading activists. Fur is green. In fact, it is so green that it would be a huge shame, if these activists succeed in making the world look the other way and wear nondegradable clothes.

Let nature take its course

Sustainability has a high priority in the world today and this is noticeable in the fur business. To many it is about saving the planet from the many environmental effects we inflict on it ourselves. It is a very important matter for many because in the end, it is crucial for securing our own survival. In order to secure the earth, we have to prioritize and use the natural materials, that can degrade themselves in nature or be reused. This is actually a part of the natural food chain. Many animal- and plant species produce more offspring than their habitat can manage and that is why the weak are used as nutrition for the others. It might sound harsh for some people, but it creates a natural flow, that we as humans should not change, just because it provokes our beliefs and our culture.

This is why we at NATURES Collection choose to focus on animal welfare and sustainability. The core in our belief is that nature gives us the resources we need, without exploiting the vital resources of the earth. In other words, we respect nature and its ecosystem and use the resources it gives to us. This makes NATURES Collection and the fur business in general an important player in the necessary battle against climate change.

Bi products to the meat industry

The fur from animals like rabbit, sheep, cow and reindeer are biproducts from the meat industry. This means, that the entire animal is used and not just the meat. We take over and use the skin, that would have been wasted. This gives a minimum of waste.

Biodegradable fashion

As we all know, we have to take care of our planet. The massive overconsumption around the world has had a very negative impact on planet earth and we are already able to see this in the shape of massive climate changes. This gives us a very good reason to invest in biodegradable clothes and products instead of the synthetics made from petrochemicals. These synthetic materials cannot break down as easily as the planet deserves and will remain in landfills for centuries. Fur, in opposition to these synthetic products, can be used for many years. To prolong the life of fur garments, pelts first undergo a special tanning process called ‘dressing’. This process protects the hair follicles and the fur, while preserving the skin, making it less likely to disintegrate and therefore more durable. If the fur is properly cared for, it can last several decades before it dries out. The fur will eventually dry out and begin to biodegrade and return to nature. You can even take your old fur and get it composed for your garden.

Sustainable fashion

Fur is made available to us from many different sources. Among other actions, we receive fur from regulation ordered by the state and the production of meat. This means that our fur is, for instance, a biproduct to both regulation and the meat industry. If we look at these actions alone, it would be quite a shame to throw the skin away as waste and only use the meat for production or to feed the animals, that lives in nature. If you look at it this way, the use of animal fur has a very important purpose in relation to sustainability. The clothes, that are made of natural materials, can degrade themselves in nature and has no environmental risks. The alternative is clothes made of synthetic plastic fibers made of petroleum.

This is, as the opposite to natural skin and fur, neither environmentally good nor sustainable. It is a resource, that cannot be degraded. It is also important that the killing should result in a minimum of waste. This is actually about the false assumption that when you take fur from an animal, the remains of the animal will not be used. This is very far from the truth. A lot of the skins are as mentioned biproducts to the meat industry and the other animals that are not used as meat will be returned to nature where they will be eaten by other animals and function as nutrition for them. But what is most important? Is it that the animals have their own rights so humans cannot dispose over their resources and living conditions or is it sustainability? At NATURES Collection we care a great deal about sustainability, but just as much about animal welfare, so that we can vouch for our products. In this case it is also important to mention, that the treatment of the fur contains very mild chemicals, to secure the quality of the fur and to make very small and insignificant environmental consequences. In other words, fur is green.
